Activities for St. Remedius Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Bromley Contingent

Regular followers of the Annals of St. Remedius, St. Remedius alumni, former faculty, and former students are all welcome to come out to the following events, both in and out of the Dallas area:

St. Remedius Watch Party

In addition, the St. Remedius Watch Party features regular monster and weird movies via Twitch.

The rules are simple (list style stolen blatantly from one of the inspirations for the Watch Parties):

Numero Uno: To watch the feed, chat with other viewers, and hear your pompous and obnoxious host pontificate about the film in question, check in at https://www.twitch.tv/stremediuswatchparty (You don’t have to create an account if all you want to do is watch or listen, but you’ll need one if you want to comment)

Numero Two-o: Find the week’s movie on your favorite streaming service, on DVD, or even on VHS. For ease of viewing, Tubi is a default, but your mileage may vary. (Because of the variability of what is available on which streaming service at any given time, movies won’t be scheduled more than two weeks in advance.)

Numero Three-o: Get everything set up on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 pm Central Time. If you don’t know what that is in your time zone, Time and Date has a handy conversion calendar: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20260502T140000&p1=70

Numero Four-o: At the scheduled time, check in on the Twitch feed to listen in. When you hear “Punch it!”, hit “Play” on your chosen medium and follow along.

Numero Five-o: While the movie isn’t necessarily audience participation, none of us are taking this overly seriously, so feel free to comment along on the chat. If you have specialized information about the movie, you’re very welcome to share. If you just want to watch the movie without commentary, feel free to mute the Twitch stream or leave: nobody will be offended or upset.

Numero Six-o: Since the default streamer for the Watch Parties is Tubi, expect lots of commentary and announcements during the commercial breaks. Relive the thrilling days of 1970s television by taking bathroom breaks, getting snacks, showing off pictures of your cat, and whatever else you want to do during the commercials.

Numero Seven-o: If your service cuts into ads, or if you’re following along on DVD or VHS, I’ll give regular updates on the elapsed movie time so you can synchronize with the rest of us. Unfortunately, Twitch won’t allow a direct video synch involving copyrighted materials, so that’s why we do it this way.

Numero Eight-o: Be warned in advance that Watching Party movies may contain large amounts of violence, nudity, drug use and abuse, dangerously cute animals, and gutted and mutilated science and culture. If you might have issues with any of this, especially the cute animals, please check with various available movie references, online recommendations, or your high school best friend’s stoner brother who still camps out in his parents’ basement while watching every gonzo or outre film ever made. If you read through the references and listen to your best friend’s brother and STILL decide to log in, it’s all on you. You can hide behind the couch when the Daleks come on and we won’t judge you.

Numero Nine-o: Share the wealth. Pass on this posting to friends and cohorts. Share it with your local weekly newspaper entertainment editor. Give it to your boss if Friday is your last day. Send out word so we get as many people as Twitch can handle.

And finally, Numero Ten-o: check back here for updates, changed schedules, changed movies (so many streaming sites cut off access to a particular movie at any given moment), and upcoming movies. Feel free to share that, too: I understand that you may not be up for this week’s movie, but if you’re thrilled about the next week’s film, the more the merrier. See you around.
