The First St. Remedius Medical College Event of 2026, And Definitely Not The Last
(Who was St. Remedius? And why is a medical college named after him?)

So it’s the first full week after the beginning of the Gregorian year 2026. We’re all hurting getting back to something approximating a normal work and sleep schedule after last December. January faces us like some big sweaty pillow: here in Dallas, this is literal, with unnaturally warm temperatures and no rain since November. Based on long experience, 2026 could start out rough and turn into one of the best years we’ve ever had, or it could start rough, stay rough, and end with us in a gully somewhere with multiple compound fractures. Those going “your year is what you make of it” are carefully and cordially invited to, to steal from my friend David Lee Ingersoll, get a hot Clorox enema to start off their year right.
Now, knowing that “going pear-shaped” is an overused simile for annus horribilis, mostly because we’ve had so many since this century started, and also because there are so many other fruits that impart a better impression of cosmic horror, let’s try something else. “Going Buddha’s Hand citron” is a mouthful, “going dragonfruit” could sometimes be impressive, and “going durian” is just overkill. Let’s try “going Osage orange“: appreciated by squirrels, an object of fascination, functional and attractive, and a great source of mythology and legend. This is the kind of energy 2026 needs.
To make a long story short, as much as I loathe the misuse and abuse of the term “manifesting,” it’s time to get weird. St. Remedius weird. For those who haven’t visited the archive lately, the St. Remedius story is getting weirder and weirder. For those who had no reason to attend St. Remedius events, now it’s time to get something going. For everyone in Dallas, it’s high time to get out of the house, if only for a little while. Most of all, we’re coming up on that sacred remembrance of our patron saint, the Feast of St. Remedius, and who are we to deny a saint the appreciation and honor due?
So here’s the plan. The first Dallas Feast of St. Remedius is this coming February 3. Authorities argue as to whether this is the correct date, so we’re taking the initiative. As always, if you can make it, great. If you can’t, there’s next time, and I’m currently looking into starting a Twitch event so folks who can’t can get in on the festivities anyway. The details are as follows:
Where: Cannon’s Corner Irish Pub (1314 W. Davis Street Dallas, TX 75208)
When: Tuesday, February 3, 2026
Duration: 7:00 to 10:00 pm
Admission: Free for the gathering, but pay for food and drink (I hear the fish and chips are exceptional)
Details: Refer to the Eventbrite listing, and feel free to share early and often.
As to what happens next, that’s a good question, but if things turn out well, this may be a regular event. Even if they don’t (I have a track record for scheduling events opposite sudden blizzards and thunderstorms), there’s always next time, and you’re invited then, too. Either way, be seeing you.
