Have Plans for December 12, 2025? Well, You Have New Plans
(Who was St. Remedius? And why is a medical college named after him?)
For those who came in late, before the Annals of St. Remedius Medical College started, your humble chronicler used to run what was referred to as “Dallas’s Pretty Much Only Carnivorous Plant Gallery.” Some readers may remember the Texas Triffid Ranch: some of you may have even entered it or perused the Triffid Ranch booth at shows and events throughout the state. Eventually all good things come to an end, and the Triffid Ranch shut down at the beginning of 2023 when new owners took over the building and sent the rent through the roof. Between its opening in 2015 and the end, the gallery built up an accumulation of parts and supplies for carnivorous plant enclosures: figures, toys, model kits, and all sorts of other weirdnesses. The last year the Triffid Ranch was in operation, post-COVID sales and liquidations left the store room full of all kinds of wonderful things, and all of that went into storage until there was time to sort through it, keep what was needed, and give away what wasn’t.
Skip forward to 2025. This abscessed appendix of a year (and I know of what I speak from personal experience) was rough on multiple levels, but one of the many achievements made in spite of a move, collapsing trees, a massive and highly necessary kitchen rebuilding, and the brain damage caused from shoving multiple crochet needles up my nose to make the pain of multiple pointless job interviews go away was getting that sorting and shifting done. Finally, completely, the storage space was cleared out, so much Triffid Ranch stuff given to charity, and what was left gathered in one spot. Again, lots of toys, lots of models, lots of weird books and weirder references, and ephemera from a thousand different places. And that’s when I thought “You know, I could take all of this to Half Price Books and maybe get $30 for it all, while watching the staff take most of it for their own personal hoards, or I could do something fun.”
One of the many surprises was coming across a cache of nice tough Halloween trick-or-treat bags, purchased just before the universe changed and intended for holding one-gallon carnivorous plant jars at the multiple events planned for 2020 that never happened. Some saw use at the 2022 Texas Frightmare Weekend, but most were still in a big Pier One bag waiting for a good use.
Now where are they going, you may ask? Well, it’s time for a new St. Remedius Campus and Off-Campus Activities entry. The Annals of St. Remedius Medical College welcomes you all to Kylo Boomhauer’s Ultimate Exonormal Gift Overload, running at Dallas’s premier Friday night goth club Panoptikon. The details:
The venue: Panoptikon at Sons of Herman Hall (3414 Elm Street, Dallas, TX 75226)
The time and date: Friday, December 12, 2025, starting at 9:00.
The cost: $10 entry fee for Panoptikon, but Gift Overload bags are absolutely free while supplies last.
The Patron Age: Panoptikon is an 18+ plus club, and ID will be checked at the door.
What else is going on: The Vampire Court of Dallas hosts its annual Krampusnacht Toy Drive this weekend, starting at Panoptikon on Friday night. In addition, if you need a break from music, Sons of Hermann Hall has both two outdoor courtyards and a bar and grille.
Why are you doing this?: The crew and patrons of Panoptikon have been near-family for years, and it’s both time to give back a little bit and to get new people involved. Besides, the best part of Halloween is giving without any expectation of return other than viewing great costumes, and Panoptikon keeps that Halloween style going all year.
Why “Kylo Boomhauer“?: Because Kylo Beavis, Kylo GIR, Kylo Jay Sherman, Kylo Krieger, and Kylo Toot Braunstein are busy.
Everything else: Once inside the venue, there will be a dedicated table space specifically for St. Remedius goodies while supplies last. One bag per patron. Patrons are very welcome to keep their gifts, include them in the Krampusnacht toy drive, give them to others, or engage in unspeakable and forbidden sacrifices, depending upon your inclinations. All bags are selected randomly: if you see something in someone else’s bag that you want, you’re very welcome to trade. Please pass on word about Kylo Boomhauer’s Ultimate Exonormal Gift Overload in particular and St. Remedius in general via social media, email, snail mail, telepathic summons, tachyon pulse emissions, and carving invitations into the surface of the moon. The whole idea, after all, is to get the festivities going, and that’s best done with as wide a crew as possible.
What’s in a typical Gift Overload bag?: There’s no telling, other than that there’s nothing dangerous or illegal. However, if you have phobias involving spiders, bats, scorpions, plastic, candy, or DC Comics superheroes, or all of the above in a big cauldron, open the bag carefully and at your own risk.
I can’t make it to Dallas. How do I get a Gift Overload bag?: Sadly, this requires participation in the local area, so bags cannot be mailed or shipped. If you want to watch the festivities, though, the official Twitch streams start at 9:00.
I can’t get to Panoptikon until later. Could I have a bag reserved for me?: Sadly, this event is “first come-first served,” just to make sure that as many people as possible get Gift Overload bags.
What’s in this for you?: Besides helping out Panoptikon and its patrons and giving a Nightmare Before Hanukkah vibe this close to the winter solstice? I get my living room back. 100 Gift Overload bags take up a lot of space.
Do I have to dress up?: Absolutely not, but it’s definitely welcomed. If you aren’t sure as to what to wear, may I refer you to one of the best authorities on the subject?
Are you planning any similar events in the future?: That honestly depends upon how things go with this show, and whether I can get suitable supplies of yooperlite in 2026. The eventual plan is to have regular St. Remedius alumni and Bromley Contingent gatherings at Panoptikon, as well as other venues throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but let’s see how this one works out first. In the meantime, feel free to check back with the Campus and Off-Campus Activities page for details as situations change.
Kylo Boomhauer is the cutest and most dynamic of all the Roamers. Could I get a picture with him?: Of course. Just be warned that Some Guy may be there, too. He always is.
I have other questions. How do I get in touch?: There’s always the handy Contact form.
Well, that’s about it. See you all on December 12. If you can make it, great. If you can’t, there’s always the next St. Remedius event.
